Leek Building Society brings life-saving defibrillators to local communities

27th January 2026

Being part of a community means more than having a physical presence on the high street. It means taking practical steps to support the people who live and work there, especially when it matters most.

That’s why Leek Building Society has now installed life-saving defibrillators at all 12 of our branches across Staffordshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire, and Shropshire, working in partnership with AEDdonate. These devices are available should they ever be needed, helping to provide vital support in a medical emergency.

This milestone is part of a wider commitment to community wellbeing by having 100 defibrillators installed by the end of 2027. Each one represents a simple but powerful way we can help keep our communities safer.

Putting purpose into action

Claire McCarthy, Chief of Staff at Leek Building Society, has led the work to bring defibrillators into our branches and to ensure the initiative reflects our wider purpose and strategy.

"This is about turning our purpose into something tangible. By installing defibrillators in our branches, we’re supporting our colleagues and local communities in a very real way."

The project aligns closely with our purpose: We’re a force for good. We exist to help our communities grow, so they can do great things today - and even better things tomorrow. Installing defibrillators is one of the many ways we bring that purpose to life.

Supporting colleagues as well as communities

While the defibrillators provide vital support for local residents, they also play an important role for our colleagues. Having the right equipment in place helps our colleagues feel supported and prepared, reinforcing that their wellbeing matters just as much as that of our customers.

It’s another example of how we aim to do the right thing - creating safe, welcoming spaces where people feel looked after.

Looking ahead

Reaching defibrillator coverage across all 12 branches is an important step, but it’s not the end of the journey. As we work towards installing 100 defibrillators by 2027, we’ll continue to focus on practical ways to support our communities and the people who serve them.

Because being a force for good isn’t about words alone. It’s about taking action, building trust, and helping our communities do great things today - and even better things tomorrow.
